Chaitra Shuddha Padhyami (the 26th March 2001) is indeed a very
auspicious day. It is the first Gudi-padwa of the New Millenninum
! Also called Ugadi (Yugadi) in South India. It is the BEGINNING
OF HINDU NEW-YEAR.
The great Indian Astrologer and mathematican Bhaskarachrya proclaimed
the Ugadi day from the sunrise onwards as the beginning of the
New Year, New Month and New Day. It is believed that Shri Rama
returned victorious to Ayodhya on this very day after killing
the demon Ravana.
On this auspicious occasion, Vandemataram.com
brings you an important service, i.e., the Hindu

Predictions of News:
On the beginning of this new
Hindu lunar calendar, there is
a change in the Moon's orbit. It is a day when mantras are chanted
and predictions made for the new year. Traditionally, the panchangasravanam
or listening to the yearly calendar is done at all religious places.
Ugadi Pachchadi :
It is the season for raw Mangoes
spreading its aroma in the air and the fully blossomed Neem tree
that makes the air healthy. Also Jaggery made with fresh crop
of sugarcane adds a renewed flavor to the typical dishes associated
with Ugadi. Pachchadi is one such dish that has become synonymous
with Ugadi. It is made of new jaggery, raw mango pieces and neem
flowers and new tarmarind which truly reflect life - A Combination
of SWEET, SOUR and BITTER taste!!
Ugadi is celebrated with festive fervour in Maharashtra, Karnataka
and Andhrapradesh. In Maharashtra it is ritual to hoist "GUDI"
atop every house. The "GUDI" consists of a metal kalash with a
green or bright red coloured cloth hanging out, along with sugarcandy.
