In line with the systematised educational pattern of the British rulers, the educated people were introduced to a plethora of ideas about community life, religion & democracy etc.

As a result there was a wave of retrospection, self analysis & catharsis. This led to the Reform Movement, from which a certain contribution to the philosophy of Indian origin was made. Arya Smaja, Brahmo Samaj, Prarthana Samaj, Satyashodhak Samaj to name a few.
So also a strong nation oriented definition of religion and Hinduism was offered by disciple of Ramakrishna Paramhansa, Swami Vivekananda. He inspired a huge number of Indians with his interpretation of Karma, Vedic sciences and Yoga to serve their motherland in terms of welfare of the poor. He advocated a strong 'service based' nationalism, catering to the poor. Although seeming materialistic his sayings have achieved the heights of pure philosophical thought.

The Yogi of Pondichery, Shri Aurobindo offered his interpretations on origin of universe, man's existence, his cause and other fundamental spiritual aspects. Earlier a revolutionary in India's armed struggle for freedom, he later turned to spirituality at Pondicheri. Father of Indian constitution, Dr. B.R.Ambedkar in his early writings and sayings diverted himself and the readers from the conventional thoughts about the upliftment of the most bereaved and the needy, poor millions of India, made him modern Indian philosopher of his time.
Nirguna (the formlessness) of the supreme power was stressed by another learned figure and a professor of philosophy, Gurudev R.D.Ranade his school of thought with it's simple method and means of meditation found many followers, and is still continuing to do so.

Having his links earlier to the leftist movement, M N Roy,'s name figures as a prominent philosopher advocating Jad-Vad (the materialistic attitude)
So diverse and dichotomous are the branches of Indian philosophy, that it permits almost every noble thought to get expressed. J. Krishnamurti, with his teachings of self awareness, no-method doctrine and a denial of systems which lead to chaos, has put forth an all togetherly different school of thought. The thought extended through the world and finds many followers for it.

Crossing the boundaries of India are some more sects of Indian philosophy. Followers of Bhagavdgita and Lord Krishna are the people of International society, for Krishna consciousness-ISKCON-founded by Swami Bhakti Vedanta Prbhupad.

Mahesh Yogi through his method of transcendental meditation has huge disciples and following all through the world.
Chinmaya Mission of Swami Chinmayananda also has spread it's wings across the globe. Swaminarayan Sect has a good number of followers, through the world. All these schools of modern philosophy are discussed here.
